Update: Offer is back and available until 3/31/2018. HT: DoC
I received a mail offer from Citi with bonuses as high as 60,000 AAdvantage miles for new checking account. The offer contain a unique code, so you must have received one in order to qualify. Even though the highest bonus is 60K, bonuses that make sense applying for go up to 50K. Offer expires on 12/31/2017.
Bonus Requirements
There’s 4 different offers for different accounts:
- Open a new Citigold account and earn 60,000 AAdvantage miles after you make $1,000 in debit card purchases and 1 or more bill payments for 2 consecutive months.
- Open a new Citi Priority account and earn 50,000 AAdvantage miles after you make $750 in debit card purchases and 1 or more bill payments for 2 consecutive months.
- Open a new Citibank account and earn 30,000 AAdvantage miles after you make $375 in debit card purchases and 1 or more bill payments for 2 consecutive months.
- Open a new Basic Banking account and earn 5,000 AAdvantage miles after you make $125 in debit card purchases and 1 or more bill payments for 2 consecutive months.
Debit purchases and first bill payment must be completed within 60 days.
Eligibility
Offer is only available to those who are targeted.
Must not currently have or have had an account a Citibank consumer checking account within last 180 calendar days.
Fees
The Citigold account for the 60K bonus requires anย average monthly balance of $200,000. The Basic Checking account also has a very small bonus so it’s not worth the trouble. So let’s look at the other two options.
The 50K AA bonus I think might be the best option. The account has a $30 monthly fee (waived with $50K balance), so you will have to pay a few months worth of fees until you get the bonus. Most likely it will cost you $90-$120.
The other option would be the 30K AA bonus. Theย Citibank account has a $25 fee waived with $10K balance. You’ll just forfeit you interest that you might be getting somewhere else.
It also might be worth asking to have a month’s fee waived. Bank will do that for customers occasionally.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
These are good bonuses from Citi if you’re looking for some extra AAdvantage miles, but you need to have received a mailer with the offer and have that unique code. If you didn’t receive an offer, or if you prefer cash better, then check out these other public offers from Citi with $300 or $500 bonuses. These bonuses make sense if you value AA miles at 1 cent each, or less.
