Citi has taken another step to curve churning for their credit card. After putting a stop to the World/World Elite loophole (kind of), they have also extended the timeframe for receiving another bonus.
It used to be that you have to wait 18 months since you last opened or closed a Citi card, in order to receive the bonus again. Now that has changed to 24 months. Here’s the new language on the AAdvantage card application page:
“American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles not available if you have had a Citi®/AAdvantage® Platinum Select® MasterCard® opened or closed in the past 24 months”.
Not a major setback, but still a move in the wrong direction. The new rule shows up for most Citi cards.
This however doesn’t affect the loophole. It’s not completely dead. There’s a few successful reports, but mainly when you apply through mailers and pre-qualified online offers. I haven’t tested it out myself yet. Check out this reddit thread with survey results on the World/World Elite loophole.
