Select Chase credit cards have a Pay Yourself Back (PYB) feature which gives you another option for redeeming points. While this feature has been devalued in recent years, it still lives on and it’s often useful for Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Aeroplan cardmembers. So let’s go over the everything you need to know about Chase Pay Yourself Back.
What is Chase Pay Yourself Back
Chase Pay Yourself Back is a redemption feature that lets eligible Chase cardholders use their points for statement credits on select purchases. It allows cardholders to get extra value from their points with the exact redemption rate depending on the card you have and the category of your purchase. Redemptions options usually also include the annual fee and charities.
It’s important to note that not every purchase will qualify, and Chase regularly updates which categories are eligible for Pay Yourself Back, giving cardholders new opportunities to maximize their points throughout the year.

How to Redeem Points with Pay Yourself Back
To redeem points through Chase Pay Yourself Back, you first need to log in to an eligible credit card card account and navigate to the rewards section.
It’s important to not that if you have multiple Chase cards in the same login, you will need to select the eligible card for this feature to appear. If you have multiple eligible cards, you still need to select a specific card since Pay Yourself Back is directly tied to the charges on the card. So if you want to redeem for gas purchases with your Chase Sapphire Reserve for example, select that card.
You then need to find the Pay Yourself Back page, or navigate to it directly by following this link. Here you will see a lists all purchases that are eligible for Pay Yourself Back. Underneath each purchase dollar amount, Chase will show you how many points are required to cover that specific purchase. Chase will round down the amount of points needed for a purchase (yay!).
You can choose to Apply Max Value so you fully cover a purchase with points, or you do a partial redemption. Just keep in mind that if you do a partial redemption for a purchase, that purchase becomes ineligible for another PYB.
