BB&T Bank has a new $100 bonus available that doesn’t require a direct deposit this time around. The bank seems to be a bit difficult to deal with when it comes to closing your accounts. I don’t personally have any experience with them.
BB&T Bank, $100 Checking Bonus
- Receive $100 when you open a new retail checking accounts between Jan. 29, 2018 and March 23, 2018 with Zelle promo code ARDCO and make two outbound Zelle payments with U by BB&T within 60 days of account opening.
- This offer is limited to the first 3,500 new personal checking accounts in U by BB&T using the promocode ARDCO during online account opening.
The account-opening incentive will be deposited directly to the checking account within 120 days of account opening and upon qualification for the incentive.
Any account not in good standing, closed, and/or with a balance less than or equal to zero at the time we review account eligibility (between 90-120 days after account opening) will not receive any amount of incentive. Interest will be reported to the IRS as required by law.
Eligibility
The offer is only available in AL, DC, FL, GA, IN, KY, MD, NC, NJ, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA and WV. Previous offers were available only to those who didn’t have an account in the past 12 months.
Fees
Fees will vary in some states. In NJ for example, the best account is the BB&T Back To Basics account which comes with no fees. But in other states that account has a $5 fee which cannot be waived. Check your state for accurate information, because I didn’t go through all of them.
But in most states BB&T Bright Banking will be the best option with a waivable fee. It has a $12 monthly fee that is waived with:
- Combined ACH direct deposits totaling $500 or more per statement cycle OR
- $1,500 average checking balance per statement cycle OR
- Personal BB&T Mortgage
Referrals
BB&T Bank also has great referral bonuses. If you have an account, you should be able to refer friends and family and you will receive a $100 referral bonus. The referree will still receive this same bonus when they sign up and fulfill all the requirements.

This bonus is better than in the past as the requirements are pretty easy. But this time around it says that it’s limited to the first 3,500 new personal checking accounts opened using the promo code ARDCO. Hopefully they make it clear that the bonus is no longer available once code has been used up.
