BB&T Bank has a new $150 bonus available that doesn’t require a direct deposit this time around. The bank seems to be a bit difficult to deal with when it comes to closing your accounts. I don’t personally have any experience with them.
BB&T Bank, $100 Checking Bonus
Open a new checking account by August 12, 2018, and complete one of the following within 75 days of opening:
- Enroll in and receive two direct deposits of $100 or more OR
- Use U by BB&T® bill pay to initiate three online payments of $25 or more.
Any account not in good standing, closed, and/or with a balance less than or equal to zero at the time we review account eligibility (between 90-120 days after account opening) will not receive any amount of incentive. Interest will be reported to the IRS as required by law.
Eligibility
- The offer is only available in D.C., GA, PA, NC, NJ, TX. Previous offers were available only to those who didn’t have an account in the past 12 months.
- This offer is available for new BB&T clients who open a BB&T checking account.
- Offer is limited to one incentive per household and does not apply to second or multiple personal accounts.
Fees
Fees will vary in some states. In NJ for example, the best account is the BB&T Back To Basics account which comes with no fees. But in other states that account has a $5 fee which cannot be waived. Check your state for accurate information, because I didn’t go through all of them.
But in most states BB&T Bright Banking will be the best option with a waivable fee. It has a $12 monthly fee that is waived with:
- Combined ACH direct deposits totaling $500 or more per statement cycle OR
- $1,500 average checking balance per statement cycle OR
- Personal BB&T Mortgage
Referrals
BB&T Bank also has great referral bonuses. If you have an account, you should be able to refer friends and family and you will receive a $100 referral bonus. The referree will still receive this same bonus when they sign up and fulfill all the requirements.

This bonus is better than in the past and the requirements are pretty easy. But it is limited to NJ and PA only. To get the $150 bonus you need to open an account by 6/10/2018 and make three online payments of $25 or more.
