Some Recent Amex Platinum Cardholders Seeing $550 Annual Fee
American Express increased the annual fee on the Platinum card from $550 to $695 on July 1st. Some additional benefits were also added to justify the fee increase.
However, some people who have applied for the Amex Platinum card in early July are seeing their annual fee still at $550. Doctor of Credit reports that the $550 fee shows on the physical mailer that comes along with the card. It is being reported for a wide variety of offers and even for the other Platinum flavors such as the Schwab card.
And to make things better for the lucky few who applied early, the fee is actually posting as $550. That’s $145 in savings while getting the new benefits that were added such as the CLEAR credit and the Entertainment credits.
From some of the data points, it seems that the $550 fee is showing for those who have applied between Jul. 1-5. If you’re not sure, check the Terms of Agreement that came along with the card, or just wait for the fee to post. Let me know if you applied around those dates, and whether you have a $550 or $695 fee.
