Air Canada Devaluation 2026
Air Canada has revealed that it will update its Aeroplan Flight Reward Chart, with the new rates taking effect June 1, 2026. The announcement was first reported by VFTW and it is easy to miss. There’s just a single line tucked onto the Air Canada website reading “as of June 1, 2026, we’re making a few changes to the number of points you may need to redeem for a reward.” But dig into the numbers and the story is more significant than that sentence suggests.
Quick Refresher: How the Aeroplan Chart Works
Aeroplan uses a zone-based, distance-banded pricing model for award flights. The world is divided into four zones:
- North America
- Atlantic
- Pacific
- South America
Flights are priced based on which zones you’re travelling between and how many miles you fly. The chart lists two figures for Air Canada and select partners. Award flights have a “Starting at” price which is the minimum you could pay and a median, which is what most people actually pay. Partner airlines outside the select group have a single fixed rate.
Keep in mind that Aeroplan uses dynamic pricing for Air Canada and select partners, so actual redemption costs can vary.
Reward Chart Changes
The biggest hit is to transatlantic business class. The median for the most common band 0–4,000 miles climbs from 107,500 to 129,300 points. Longer Atlantic routes in the 6,001–8,000 mile range see partner fixed rates for business rise from 130,000 to 150,000 points.
North America to Pacific routes take a beating as well. The 7,501–11,000 mile band sees partner business class jump from 87,500 to 102,500 points (+17%). Even economy on the longest Pacific hauls (11,001+ miles) sees its starting price rise from 65,000 to 70,000 points.
The steepest percentage changes are in the Atlantic–Pacific corridor. Business class on the longest band (7,001+ miles) jumps from a 60,000-point floor to 100,000 points, a 67% increase. Partner rates across all distance bands in this corridor also go up significantly.
Within North America, the minimum reward chart pricing in unchanged, but medians have gone up. You can see all charts here.
Guru’s Wrap-up
The Air Canada June 2026 chart represents a meaningful devaluation on several of Aeroplan’s redemptions such as transatlantic business class, Pacific routes, and the Atlantic–Pacific corridor. The intra-Europe partner reductions are the only positive change.
For members sitting on large point balances, this is a reminder that Aeroplan points just like any other currency, are a depreciating asset.
If you have a transatlantic or transpacific business class redemption in mind, booking before June 1, 2026 means you can still take advantage of the current chart with the lower prices. After that date, the new minimums and medians apply.
