Southwest to Start Hawaii Flights and End Mexico City

Southwest has been looking to start serving Hawaii for a while now. But finally Hawaii flights could become available in a couple of months. It has been a long time coming, and the launch date has been pushed back several times. But now the airline hopes to to start selling tickets in February for flights starting around the end of March, or early April the latest.

Southwest to Start Hawaii Flights and End Mexico City

That plan might materialize only if the government and its FAA remain open for business. Southwest’s Hawaii flights were supposed to start in January. but the long federal government shutdown prevented the final approval that it needed. It will take approximately six to eight weeks for Southwest to launch its new routes after the FAA approval process is back to normal. But that could be sidetracked if a new shutdown begins, Beat of Hawaii reports.

While those waiting on Southwest to visit Hawaii might rejoice, there’s bad news if Mexico City is on your list. Southwest Airlines is dropping service to Mexico City on March 30th. But they’re not pulling out of Mexico completely. Southwest will continue to serve other locations such as Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.
