Retention Offers for No-Fee Amex Cards Are Possible

Retention Offers for No-Fee Amex Cards

Many credit cards come with an annual fee. When it’s time to pay that fee, it is usually a good idea to call up your issuer and ask if there are any offers available to offset the annual fee. Banks want you to keep their card in your wallet so they often offer a spending bonus or just a flat statement credit for keeping the card another year.

But what if the card has no annual fee to begin with? Conventionally, there’s no reason for a bank to reward you for keeping a free card. However, we have seen multiple datapoints suggesting that American Express is getting aggressive about keeping cards in customers’ wallets.

A retention offer was reported for the American Express Blue Business Plus credit card. This is a no fee card that earns 2X Membership Rewards points for all purchases. User redittor for example was offered $50 credit and $100 more after spending $2,000 on the card. I have also seen reports of offers for $100 and $200 credit, after spending $2,000 on the card. More recently, in February of 2026, a 10,000 bonus with $5,000 spend was reported in our Facebook Group. Membership Rewards offers also seem possible. The offers were provided via calling in or through the chat feature.

I’m not sure if these offers would be possible for other no-fee cards, such as Blue Cash Everyday® Card for example, or no-fee cobranded cards. But if you have the Amex Blue Business Plus card it is definitely worth a try.

Let me know in the comment if you have received one of these offer!
