Earn Bilt Points on Rent Payments with Non-Bilt Cards
🔃 Update: Well, that didn’t last long! Starting 7/21/25, all cards (except for the Bilt Mastercard) will earn the same 0.5X Bilt Points on rent payments, and you will pay a 3% fee. Currently Visa, Mastercard and Discover earn 1X, and Amex earns 0.5X. The Bilt Mastercard will continue to earn 1X Bilt Point per dollar on rent payments, with no fee. (HT: FM)
Bilt Rewards has updated the terms on points earning for rent payments. Until now, rent payments made with a non-Bilt card would only earn a flat bonus of 250 points.
The new terms, as of April 14, 2025, state that you will earn 1X Bilt Point for every dollar you spend with a Mastercard, Visa or Discover card. Amex cards will only earn 0.5X Bilt Points.
Here are the new terms:
“For Rent Payments made without a Bilt Mastercard®, Bilt Members will earn a flat rate of Two Hundred Fifty (250) Points per monthly Rent payment made through the Bilt app or website via ACH or via any card other than a Visa®, Mastercard® American Express®, or Discover® credit card, up to a maximum of Two Hundred Fifty (250) Points per month. Rent payments made via a Visa®, Mastercard®, or Discover® credit card will earn 1 Point per $1 spent on rent paid through the Bilt App or website. Rent payments made via an American Express® credit card will earn 1 Point per $2 spent on rent paid through the Bilt App or website. Points cannot be earned on Rent payment fees under this offer and can be earned on only one residential rent payment per month. This offer is subject to change over time, cannot be combined with other benefits or promotions that are specific to rent spend on the Bilt app or website using other non-Bilt Mastercard credit cards (e.g., the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® 3X Rent Spend Benefit).”
It’s worth noting that the Bilt Mastercard is still the best option for paying rent through Bilt Rewards. There’s no fee and you earn 1X Bilt Point per dollar. So a $3,000 monthly rent payment for example, will earn you 36,000 Bilt Points every year. Plus you can choose to pay by physical check or ACH.
So what’s the big deal with these changes? If you’re paying with a non-Bilt card, you pay a fee of 3% and can pay using ACH only. So normally is not a good idea to do so. But if you’re earning 1X Bilt Point and another 1X or 2X in credit card rewards, it makes it more appealing option for generating credit card spend or meeting a signup bonus spend requirement.
