Delta Is Next! Checked Baggage Fees Go Up By $10 Tomorrow

Delta to Increase Checked Baggage Fees

In response to surging global jet fuel prices, Delta Air Lines has announced an increase in checked baggage fees for domestic and select short-haul international flights.

Effective for bookings made on or after April 8, 2026, the cost for the first checked bag will rise by $10 for the first and second bag and by $50 for the third. That means that starting tomorrow, the first bag will cost $45, the second to $55, and the third to $200.

This move follows similar price hikes by competitors United and JetBlue as the industry grapples with increased fuel costs. While Delta benefits from owning its own refinery, the company remains vulnerable to soaring crude prices, leading to these first domestic fee increases in two years.

Delta baggage benefits for frequent flyers and premium customers remain unchanged, so not everyone will have to pay these higher prices.
