Citi Prestige Will Earn 5X Online, Citi Premier 3x at Restaurants/Supermarkets

During this unprecedented time, online and essential spend have increased significantly. As such, Citi is announcing a new, limited-time offer for Prestige cardholders and accelerating the timeline for new benefits for Premier cardholders. The changes that are automatically going into effect for existing cardholders with an open account as of May 22nd.

Citi Prestige Card

Citi Prestige cardholders can now enjoy 5 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on all online purchases up to 7,500 points, through August 31, 2020. Examples of eligible purchases include the below:

  • Retailer website orders
  • Online grocery orders
  • Online drugstore orders

And, as previously announced, Citi has also expanded the categories of purchases that qualify for the $250 Travel Credit benefit. In addition to Travel purchases, purchases made with a Citi Prestige Card at Supermarkets and Restaurants (including takeout) will also count toward this Expanded $250 Travel Credit benefit between May 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

Citi Premier Card

Expedited to June 2, 2020 (from August 23, 2020), in addition to the categories in which existing Citi Premier cardholders currently earn additional points, cardholders will earn:

  • 3 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on supermarket purchases (instead of 1 point per $1 spent)
  • 3 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on restaurant purchases, including takeout and curbside pickup (instead of 2 points per $1 spent)

Guru’s Wrap-up

Two good moves from Citi. Earning 5x online is a great addition to Prestige cardholders, although limited to 7,500 points only. So everyone who has the card should be able to maximize it. Also makes sense for Citi Premier cardholders to start earning the increased rates at supermarkets and restaurants earlier, since now it’s when they’re needed most.
