Chase and Amex to Suspend Transfers to Emirates
Last week I wrote about a devaluation of Citi ThankYou points transfers to Emirates Skywards Miles. Starting 7/27, you will get 800 Emirates Skywards Miles when you transfer 1,000 ThankYou Rewards Points, down from a 1:1 ratio.
But could we see a similar change to transfer from other partners? It seems very likely. Now, when you go to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Amex Membership Rewards to Emirates Skywards Miles you will see a message that transfer will be suspended starting in late May.
The Amex Membership Rewards transfer pages says:
“Beginning May 28th, the ability to transfer Membership Rewards points to Emirates Skywards Miles will be temporarily unavailable. Please visit Emirates.com for more information. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
And the Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer pages says:
“Emirates Skywards will be unavailable Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards® points online or over the phone to Emirates Skywards will be unavailable between 12:00 AM ET 5/29/25 and tentatively 6/30/25. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Both notices say that the suspension of point transfer will be temporary. However, Amex transfer will be paused a day earlier and there’s no tentative date for transfer to resume.
It’s likely that Emirates is renegotiating the terms of the agreement and we might see changes to the transfer ratio, possibly for the worse just like we saw with Citi. If you are planning a redemption for Emirates popular premium products, then I would likely go ahead and transfer points before these outages.
Let me know what you think!
