The Centurion Lounge is one of the best perks for the American Express Platinum and Centurion credit cards. being able to access lounges for free definitely makes travel less aggravating. You can get away from busy terminals an relax in a comfortable environment, you get complimentary food and drink choices and other amenities. The Centurion Lounge network is one of the best out there, but have lately been plagues by overcrowding.
American Express has taken some steps to fix that problem recently by limiting the amount of guests and no longer offering entry for a fee. Now there’s new restrictions that limit the time you can visit the lounges.
New Centurion Lounge Rules
View from the Wing writes that starting March 22, 2019, there following restrictions will be added to Centurion Lounge access:
- The Centurion Lounge will welcome Platinum Card Members who arrive within 3 hours or less prior to their original scheduled departure time or can provide proof of a connecting flight. Card Members who arrive at the Centurion Lounge as their final destination will no longer be permitted entry.
- Children under 2 years of age will be admitted free of charge and will not count towards Platinum Card Member’s 2 complimentary guest count, so long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who is able to produce a “lap infant” boarding pass or proof of age.
These changes will be added permanently, but they do not affect American Express Centurion cardholders.

Guru’s Wrap-up
These are negative changes as you will not be able to access lounges upon arrival and when arriving at the airport earlier than 3 hours. But on the other hand, it should help somewhat with the overcrowding. If you have a long connection, then the 3 hour limit doesn’t apply.
What do you think of these changes? Positive or negative?
