Bilt Devalues Grubhub Redemptions: Gift Cards Replaced by Expiring Promo Codes

Bilt Devalues Grubhub Redemptions

Bilt Rewards introduced Bilt Cash earlier this year as a flexible way to spend points with a long list of partners. But a recent shift in how those Grubhub credits work has significantly reduced their utility.

From Gift Cards to Promo Codes

The biggest blow to flexibility is the move away from standard gift cards. Previously, when you redeemed Bilt Cash for Grubhub, you received a gift card balance that sat in your account indefinitely.

Now, Bilt has pivoted to $10 promotional codes. This change introduced several strict “use-it-or-lose-it” rules that didn’t exist before:

  • Expiration: New codes are only valid until the end of the calendar month in which they are issued. If you redeem your points on the 25th, you only have a few days to spend that credit.
  • Stacking: Under the old system, you could hoard gift cards for a large “free” meal. The new promo codes cannot be stacked; you are limited to using one $10 credit per order. These codes are now coded as “promotions,” meaning you cannot use them alongside other Grubhub discounts, free delivery offers, or restaurant-specific deals.

At least these Bilt promo codes still function alongside the American Express Gold Card monthly dining credit. Since the Amex credit is applied as a statement credit on the backend, you can effectively use a $10 Bilt code to lower the checkout price and let the Amex credit cover the remainder.

Bilt’s other redemption avenues remain unchanged.
