Update: Corporate (I’m guessing they mean business) Cards (like the Amex Blue Business Plus, which earns 2X points) and prepaid card products are not eligible for this offer.
American Express launched a new integration with Walmart.com today. Eligible U.S. Card Members enrolled in the Membership Rewards program can now use Membership Rewards® points to shop favorite products on Walmart.com, both on desktop, mobile web and mobile app (IOS and Android). More importantly, you can earn an increased rate of rewards at Walmart during the month of August. There’s a limit of 2,500 promotional points per eligible card.
Amex Walmart Promo
Get two additional Membership Rewards® points per dollar spent after you checkout online using Amex Express Checkout with a Membership Rewards-enrolled American Express® Card at Walmart.com until 8/30/2018. Max. 2,500 additional points.
To use Amex Express Checkout on Walmart.com, under the “Enter Payment Method” section click the “+ More” button. Select Amex Express Checkout and follow the checkout process.
Offer Terms
- Offer ends 8/30/2018.
- Corporate Cards (like the Amex Blue Business Plus, which earns 2X points) and prepaid card products are not eligible for this offer.
- Limit of 2,500 additional Membership Rewards points per eligible Card.
- These additional points are in addition to any points you would normally receive for purchases on your Card under the terms of the Membership Rewards program.
- For Amex Everyday Card products, when we calculate the additional points benefit, points awarded under this offer will not be included.
- Additional points will be credited to your Membership rewards program account within 90 days after qualifying purchases appear on your billing statement.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
The Pay with Points part is not interesting since you only get a value of 0.7 cents per point. You can do much better by using the points for travel. But the 2X extra points is a good deal for all your Walmart shopping. A card that already earns 2X, should earn a total of 4X. You just need to use a Membership Rewards card to take advantage of the promotion. There’s no enrollment required to earn the enhanced rate, just make sure you pay with Amex Express Checkout. I’m not sure if authorized users would get their own 2,500 additional points on their own. I would think that the limit applies to a card account.
