United Cuts Polaris Lounge Access for Most Star Alliance Passengers
If you’ve been counting on United’s Polaris Lounges as a perk of flying business class on a Star Alliance partner, that door is now mostly closed. As of April 14, 2026, United overhauled Polaris Lounge access.
Under the old rules it was fairly simple. Any long-haul Star Alliance business or first class passenger departing from a Polaris Lounge airport could get in. The new policy is far more selective. Beyond United’s own eligible passengers, only these partner flyers still qualify:
- First class on ANA, Lufthansa, or SWISS
- Business class on ANA, Air New Zealand, or ITA Airways
- Basic and Flex business class tickets on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines
Flying Singapore Airlines, Turkish, LOT, EgyptAir, or any other Star Alliance carrier? You’re out, regardless of cabin.
Polaris Lounges have been chronically overcrowded, and United is adding premium seats faster than lounge space. Just recently United cut Polaris access for its own basic business class passengers.
