You Can Now Transfer ThankYou Points to American Airlines

Transfer ThankYou Points to American Airlines

Citi has updated its list of travel partners with select cardholders now having the ability to transfer Citi ThankYou® Rewards to American Airlines AAdvantage miles.

This was already a limited time option once in the past and it was rumored to launch again permanently later this year.

But transfers are now live, on the same day as the Citi Strata Elite launch. However, only Citi Strata Elite, Citi Strata Premier and Citi Prestige cardholders are able to transfer points to AAdvantage.

As shown in the image above, you can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio. That means that every 1,000 ThankYou points will get you 1,000 AAdvantage miles. Transfer are instant, but the transfer page notes that it can take up to 5 business days in some cases. You can transfer Citi ThankYou points here.

You can redeem ThankYou Points for a number of travel purchases, including flights, hotels, rental cars and more. But normally the best use of points is through travel partners which now includes American Airlines, JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, Eva Air, Accor, Choice Hotels, The Leading Hotels of the World® and others.

Guru’s Wrap-up

This new transfer option will be great news for those with eligible Citi cards and American Airlines enthusiasts. If you have a stash of ThankYou points, than having American Airlines as a transfer partner sure adds value to those points.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to earn more American Airline miles, then Citi ThankYou cards give you more earning potential and you can transfer at a 1:1 ratio.

The one thing that everyone will be worried about however will be AA devaluations. Are they coming soon?
