TFCU Mastercard Elite 3x Rewards

Tropical Financial Credit Union in Florida has a very interesting card that can earn you 3X in rewards on all purchases. Before you go any further, you should know that this card in only available to customers who live in South Florida. The card is called the TFCU Mastercard Elite 3x Rewards and it was introduced earlier this year. It features a fixed rate and triples the number of points one can earn on each purchase, no matter where it is used.

For every dollar spent, members will earn three points. For example, if someone charges $75 for a dinner out or at the dry cleaner, he or she would automatically earn 225 points. Once those points add up to a certain level, they can be redeemed for travel, merchandise, or even cash back. There’s no limit on the rewards you can earn. To redeem for cashback or for other redemption options, you need to register separately at UChooseRewards.com. Rewards are valued at 1¢, making the TFCU Mastercard Elite 3x Rewards a 3% cash back card.

The card doesn’t have a welcome bonus, but has no annual fee, no balance transfer fee and a fixed Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 17.99%. Once the rate is established, it remains locked in while the account remains active.

TFCU Membership

To become a member of Tropical Financial, you must live or work in one the following Florida counties: Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, St. Lucie, Martin, Hendry, Collier, Lee and Sarasota. You also can join if you are an employee of one of their Partner Companies, which can be found here. Additionally, immediate family of someone who is already a member of the credit union (Immediate family includes spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, grandchild, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, and adoptive relationships) are eligible.

Guru’s Wrap-up

This looks like a great card to have long term for non-bonused spending. 3% is hard to beat, and it definitely makes sense to apply if you are in South Florida.
