Spirit Airlines Eliminates Change and Cancelation Fees

Spirit Drops Change and Cancelation Fees

Spirit Airlines announced today that it no longer charge change fees or cancelation fees. The news comes just days after Frontier got rid of change fees for almost all ticket fares.

Strangely, the budget airline did not put out a press release about the news. Instead just show a notification on their homepage saying that “cancelation fees are gone for everyone” and “change fees are gone for all.”

Unlike Frontier, who still charges these fees on basic fares, Spirit is eliminating them for all fares. And these were hefty fees. The Florida based airline used to charge $119 for ticket changes made 0 to 6 days before departure, $99 for changes made 7 to 30 days prior, and $69 for changes made 31 to 59 days prior to departure.

Spirit didn’t charge passengers for changes made within 24 hours after booking, or changes made 60 days prior to departure.

The new policy gives passengers more flexibility and lets them book without worrying about changes in their travel plans.

These changes come after a Department of Transportation (DOT) rule that aims to stop airlines from charging customers surprise junk fees.
