People’s United Bank is offering again a $100 bonus for opening a personal checking account. The offer is not available online. You must visit their locations within Stop & Shop stores to apply. There’s no coupon or promo code necessary, but you should see the flyers by the in-store branch if they’re available in your area.
Bonus Requirements
Open a new checking account by 3/29/2019 with a minimum of $25, which has no monthly fees, complete the requirement (see below) and the $100 will be deposited within 90 days. Student Plus and HSA checking accounts are not eligible.
To receive the bonus you must complete only one of the following requirements:
- Receive at least one direct deposit of at least $100 into the new checking account within 60 days of account opening (PayPal and Square payments are specifically excluded in the terms)
- Obtain a debit card that is linked to your new account and then use the debit card to make at least 10 purchases of $25+ each within 60 days of account opening
Eligibility
- This offer is for new checking customers only. which means any account owner cannot currently have a People’s United personal checking account within the last 180 days.
- Limit of one reward per household.
- They have branches in Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and New York, but this bonus is usually available in CT and NY only.
Fees
Plus Checking is their basic checking account. It has no monthly service charge and no minimum balance requirement.
Referral Program
They also have a referral program where you can earn up to $500 by referring 10 friends.
But with the referral offer, your friends and family can only earn a $50 sign up bonus by completing the same requirements. So it would be about the same as signing up through this offer, for a $100 total. If you prefer to use the referral program, you can do it here.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
It is a bit of a hassle to have to go to a supermarket and apply, but you can receive $100 with some easy requirements. Considering that there’s no monthly fees and no minimum balance, makes this an easy bonus if you have a branch nearby. This bonus comes around every few months, so it’s no rush.
