Visa Gift Card deal

How to Maximize Profits

There is a $5.95 activation fee for $100 Visa Gift Cards and a $6.95 activation fee for $200 Visa Gift Cards.

The best way to maximize the offer, would be to purchase two $200 VGCs for every transaction. The total cost will be $413.90 and you’ll already make a profit of $1.10 after the $15 rebate. But on top of that you will also receive 1,995 Chase UR points if you’re using your Chase Ink cards.

Your other option is to purchase one $200 VGC and one $100 VGC per transaction.  The total cost will be $312.90 and you’ll make a profit of $2.10 after the $15 rebate. You’ll also get 1,490 Chase UR points with a Chase Ink card.

As Ken points  in the comments, you could also go for Style Everywhere cards that have a fee of $4.95 or Five Back Visa Gift Cards that have a $6.95 fee but earn 5% at select merchants.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is a great deal from OfficeMax that should somewhat  make up for an an even better deal that was pulled early. You’re able to purchase gift cards at a profit and also add lots of points to your Ultimate Rewards account. Visit your local store (make sure they have the deal) early in the week to get your hands on the best selection of gift cards.  And you never know if OfficeMax pulls this one early as well.

  1. Heads up, I just came back from OD shopping and was told by the manager that TODAY IS THE LAST DAY of the promo. For those who are planning to shop tomorrow, do it NOW before they pull the plug tonight.

  2. regarding the EVERYWHERE visa GCs issued by Metabank, PSA to everyone NOT TO BUY the movies and gas everywhere if you’re tempted since they have lower fees than the dining/grocery/style GCs if you’re going to drain them at WM. The ones easy to drain at most are the dining/grocery/style but it’s always YMMV (what works for others may not work for you in your location). BEST TO DO A TRIAL purchase and see if you can liquidate them so you don’t get stucked with several of these GCs.

    • Agreed. DO NOT BUY MOVIES OR FUEL CARDS. Besides these are $100 denomination only. You can only liquidate these at movie theatres and fuel station respectively. As mimi says, Style and Dininget are the only easiest ones, and in variable 200 max denominations, to liquidate.
Fee on All everywhere cards is just 4.95.

  3. My recommendation is go for the 2×200 Style Everywhere or Food Everywhere vgc’s, as these only carry a $4.95 fee each, and are just as easy to liquidate at wallies!
Or else buy the “5 back” x 2 at $6.95 fee, then go along to Lowes and spend them loading a Style Everywhere variable vgc for 195.05 (to complete a $200 card burn), then wait for $9.75 (5%) to appear on the 5 back card for a future purchase. Have fun out there this week, and overheat your Chase Inks!

      • True and good for those who have Lowes, OD/OM and WM in the same vicinity; you’re squeezing add’l $5.05 profits per $200 everywhere GC bought with FiveBack.

  4. $15 rebate not $20 for this deal… fyi… you wrote “The total cost will be $413.90 and you’ll already make a profit of $6.10 after the $20 rebate.”
