There’s a new M&T Bank $250 checking account bonus available. These bonuses used to be churnable but that’s no longer the case and it’s likely that many readers will already have account and will not be eligible.
$250 Bonus Requirements
In order to receive the bonus you need to:
- Open any new MyChoice Plus checking account by June 8, 2018
- Use promo code TJ when you sign up.
- Make a direct deposit of at least $500 within 90 days of account opening.
The fine print says that the $250 bonus will be deposited within 90 days, but it is usually deposited on the same day as the “direct deposit”. I’ve been using ACH transfers from Capital One 360.
There’s also a bonus of $100 with the same requirement, but for EZChoice checking accounts.
Eligibility
This offer is only available to residents of CT, DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA and WV and only available to those who have received this offer directly.
Cash bonus offers are not available to employees of M&T Bank or any of its affiliates or to customers who have already received a bonus in connection with an M&T personal checking account within the preceding twelve-month period.
Fees
MyChoice Plus Checking that is required for the $250 bonus has a monthly fee of $14.95 that is waived with
- Average daily balance of $2,500 OR
- Monthly direct deposit of $1,500
EZChoice Checking that is required for the $100 bonus mo longer has a monthly fee as of April 12, 2018 (used to be $6.95).
A $50 early close-out fee applies if the account is closed within 180 days of the date the account was opened.

This is one of the better bonuses from M&T Bank. Nowadays is worth waiting for a bonus of at least $200 or $250 since you can only get once bonus every 12 months. This offer though is also targeted, so not many people will qualify.
