Ouch! Massive Devaluation of Virgin Atlantic Delta One Redemptions

Massive Devaluation of Virgin Atlantic Delta One Awards

Massive Devaluation of Virgin Atlantic Delta One Redemptions

Virgin Atlantic has started the new month with a massive devaluation for Delta One awards without any notice for customers. The news was first reported by Thrifty Traveler.

Instead of a flat 50,000 points, Virgin now charges a variable rate with peak and off-peak pricing for travel to Europe in Delta business class. Tickets to Europe can now cost as much as 77,500 points. On top of that they have added cash surcharges of more than $1,000 on each Delta business class redemption.

One example is a Delta One award from from Seattle (SEA) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) which would have cost 50,000 points and $5.60 in taxes and fees just a couple of days ago. Now that same flight will cost 77,500 points and $1,032 in cash.

That’s a huge blow to what was one of the best deals for using Virgin points. And if you are looking for any good news here, Delta economy redemptions to Europe remain unchanged at least.
