The breach came from the Starwood brand database. Apparently the hacking has been going on since 2014, but it was just recently discovered. If you have made any bookings as stayed atv their Starwood brands before September 10th 2018, then you are probably affected.

Marriott said that it has taken measures to investigate and also address the security incident. But, it’s also added that while it’s credit card information was encrypted, hackers might have also stolen information to help them decrypt that data.

For around 367 million of those affected, Marriott said, the information taken includes some combination of their name, mailing address, phone number, email address, passport number, date of birth, gender, and other information around their Starwood account.

Starwood brands include:

  • W Hotels
  • St. Regis
  • Sheraton Hotels & Resorts
  • Westin Hotels & Resorts
  • Element Hotels
  • Aloft Hotels
  • The Luxury Collection
  • Tribute Portfolio
  • Le Méridien Hotels & Resort
  • Four Points by Sheraton
  • Design Hotels

Marriott has set up a website and call center for anyone who thinks that they are at risk. They will also start sending out emails today to those who have been affected by the data breach.
