Grand Cayman Marriott Restores Beachfront With Major Investment
The Grand Cayman Marriott Resort is undergoing a multi-million-dollar transformation that will restore its beachfront and introduce a refreshed identity as the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort.
The property sits along Seven Mile Beach, where years of natural coastal changes and erosion have significantly reshaped the shoreline. A government-approved restoration project will add carefully sourced sand and install low-profile rock structures designed to stabilize the beach over time. Marriott says environmental protections are being used to minimize the impact on nearby coral reefs, marine ecosystems and local wildlife.
The restored beachfront is expected to be completed in early September and will remain open to the public. Marriott says the project could also serve as a model for future shoreline-restoration efforts elsewhere in the Cayman Islands.
Along with bringing back the beach, the resort plans to introduce new oceanfront experiences such as waterfront mixology classes, Chef’s Table dinners on the sand, private beach gatherings and customized events inspired by Cayman culture.
Marriott says the project should support the broader local tourism economy through additional spending, accommodation taxes and partnerships with water-sports operators, attractions and other businesses.
For Marriott Bonvoy members, the biggest news is simply the return of a usable beachfront at a resort located on one of the Caribbean’s best-known stretches of sand. The property remained open during the years of erosion, but the loss of direct beach access made it a less appealing option than nearby Seven Mile Beach resorts.
