Airport in Italy Receives First Five-Star Rating for COVID-19 Safety Protocols

An airport in Italy is the first in the world to receive a five-star rating for keeping passengers safe from the coronavirus. The ratings are given out by Skytrax Airport Ratings company, based on inspections and testing carried out by their audit team at each airport to verify real-time standards. Rome’s Fiumicino Airport was the only tested airport to receive the highest mark for cleanliness and anti-COVID measures. Fiumicino was one of the first airports in the world to introduce high tech temperature scans, months ago.

The COVID-19 Rating covers all passenger terminal areas for cleaning and disinfection procedures and consistency, social distancing policies and control, face mask usage, sanitiser availability, standard and use of PPE by staff in the airport, and other hygiene applications.

By comparison, London’s Heathrow and some European airports received three stars. Not many airports have been tested so far by Skytrax.
