Five Star Bank has an offer for new checking accounts that can get you a bonus of up to $200. The offer is available in NY and in branch only until 11/30/2018.

Bonus Requirements
To receive the $200.00 Premier Checking account (NOW account) bonus:
- Must open a Premier Checking account in one of our branches by 11/30/2018.
- Must establish a direct deposit into your account within 60 days from the last day of month the account was opened.
To receive the $100.00 checking account bonus:
- Must open a Plus Checking, Traditional Checking, E-Checking or Safe Checking (where available) account in one of our branches by 11/30/2018.
- Must establish a direct deposit into your account within 60 days from the last day of month the account was opened.
The bonus will be deposited within 90 days from the last day of the month the account was opened. The bonus may be subject to income tax and IRS reporting.
Eligibility
- Offers not available to existing Five Star Bank consumer checking or NOW account holders, or those who have closed a Five Star Bank consumer checking account within 12 months or have had an account closed with a negative balance.
- Business and municipal customers are not eligible.
- Bonus is limited to one account per customer regardless of the titling on the account.
- Offer is available in NY only (branch locator).
Fees
Premier Checking has a $22 monthly fee that is waived with:
- A combined total consumer deposit accounts and/or loan balances of $25,000 or more at the end of the activity period OR
- Direct deposits totaling at least $5,000 into the account during the activity period
E-Checking is free when you receive your monthly statement electronically.
If the account is closed within 179 days after opening, the bonus will be forfeited; the bonus will be debited from the account at account closing and the account will be subject to the Bank’s $35.00 early account closeout fee.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
We’ve seen a better bonus of $250 in the past with the same requirements. You need to set up a direct deposit into your account within 60 days. You then need direct deposits totaling at least $5,000 monthly to waive the $22 fee for the Premier Checking that is required for the $200 bonus. Or you can go for the $100 bonus with the E-Checking account that has no monthly fee. If you can get 4% or more on that $5K, then it’s just better to go for the free account and the $100 bonus.
