Citi is offering a bonus of $700 when you open a new checking account. These offers are usually sent by mail, but this time around it’s also available in-branch, you just need to ask.
Citi Checking Offers
- Citi Gold Account
- Earn $700 when you spend $1,000 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months.
- Citi Priority Checking
- Earn $500 when you spend $750 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months
- Citibank Account
- Earn $300 when you spend $375 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months.
- Basic Checking
- Earn $50 when you spend $125 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months.
Must open account by June 30, 2019.
Eligibility
Offer is only available to those who are targeted.
Must not currently have or have had an account a Citibank consumer checking account within last 180 calendar days.
Fees
The Citigold account for the $700 bonus requires an average monthly balance of $200,000. The Basic Checking account also has a very small bonus of $50 so it’s not worth the trouble. So let’s look at the other two options.
The $500 bonus I think might be the best option. The account has a $30 monthly fee (waived with $50K balance), so you will have to pay a few months worth of fees until you get the bonus. Most likely it will cost you $90-$120.
The other option would be the $300 bonus. The Citibank account has a $25 fee waived with $10K balance. You’ll just forfeit you interest that you might be getting somewhere else.
It also might be worth asking to have a month’s fee waived. Bank will do that for customers occasionally.
