Chase Tightens The Edit Credit Rules for Sapphire Reserve

Chase has updated the terms on The Edit benefit for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders. The new language that was updated last week, now says that back-to-back stays at the same property within 24 hours of checkout are considered a single stay and only the first stay will earn the credit.

Here’s the exact wording:

“Up to $500 annually for qualifying bookings through The Edit:

Get two $250 statement credits for prepaid bookings with a two-night minimum (back-to-back stays at the same property within 24 hours of checkout are considered a single stay, and only the first stay is eligible for the credit). These credits can be used at any time during the calendar year. Your credits apply automatically to your first two qualifying stays of two or more nights booked throughout the year.”

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is a small but important restriction for Sapphire Reserve cardholders who use the card’s up to $500 annual The Edit credit.

The benefit still provides two $250 statement credits for qualifying prepaid stays of at least two nights, but Chase has now clarified that you can’t simply split one longer hotel stay into back-to-back reservations to trigger both credits. If you check out and return to the same property within 24 hours, Chase will treat those bookings as a single stay, and only the first reservation will qualify for the credit.

The credits can still be used at any time during the calendar year, but they will need to be tied to two genuinely separate qualifying stays. Through Dec. 31, 2026, you can also stack it with up to $250 on prepaid bookings with a two-night minimum at hotels from participating brands, including IHG Hotels & Resorts, Montage Hotels & Resorts, Pendry Hotels & Resorts, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotel Group and Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts.
