Earning Rewards

The Ink Business Cash Card earns 5% cash back on the first $25,000 you make in combined purchases each account anniversary year at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services. Additionally, you earn 2% cash back on the first $25,000 you make in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year. You also get 1% cash back on all other purchases, and all spend over $25,000 in the bonus categories.

Th earning rate that stands out is clearly the 5% cash back at office supply stores which includes Staples and Office Depot. This is an impressive benefit for a no-annual-fee card, especially one that comes with a big welcome bonus. The earning rate gets even better if you have another Chase card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points. That means 5X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services. That’s could be easily considered about 7-8% cash-back depending on how much you value Ultimate Rewards.

If you maximize the 5x categories, you would be earning 125,000 Ultimate Rewards points very year.

Using Rewards

The Ink Business Cash Card is advertised as a cash-back card. You can redeem the cash-back for gift cards, travel or just cash in the form of statement credit or deposit into an eligible U.S. checking or savings account. You also have other options such as Amazon Shop with Points, but that’s normally not a good redemption value outside of the frequent promotions.

If you want to maximize the value of the rewards, then your best bet is to pair it with a Ultimate Rewards earning card such as Chase Ink Business Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred. You can then convert the cash-back rewards on your Ink Business Cash Card to Chase Ultimate Rewards points. To do this, the two cards must be in the same name, or a member of your household.

Having these rewards in the form of Ultimate Rewards points, means that you can now redeem in the Chase Travel portal, or even better, transfer to hotel and airline partners. This is why Ultimate Rewards are one other most valuable currencies in the credit card world. Here are all the eligible partners and the transfer ratios:

Other Benefits

The Ink Business Cash Card is a no-annual-fee card that has great earning potential, but otherwise it has modest perks.

One good thing is that small-business owners can add employee cards at no additional cost. You earn the same rewards through employee cards as you do with the primary card. Plus you can set spending limits and categorize purchases by card.

The Ink Business Cash Card offers purchase protection and extended warranty protection. Purchase protection covers new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft at up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account. Extended warranty protection extends the period of a U.S. manufacturer’s warranty by an additional year on eligible warranties of three years or less.

You also get auto rental collision damage waiver when you decline the rental company’s collision insurance and charge the entire rental cost to your card. Coverage is primary when renting for business purposes. It covers up to the actual cash value of the vehicle for theft and collision damage for most rentals in the U.S. and abroad. However this card is not ideal for international travel as you will be charged a 3% foreign transaction fee.

Chase Ink Business Cash Review: Guru’s Wrap-up

When it comes to no-annual-fee credit cards, the Ink Business Cash Card is by far your best choice, especially with the current offer. You can a bonus of $750 which can also be used as 75,000 Ultimate Rewards points. That increases the value substantially, possibly as high as $1,500.

The welcome offer also gives you 12 months of 0% APR which is a small bonus on its own considering current interest rates.

While the welcome offer makes this card worth applying, the earning rates make it a keeper long term. You earn 5% cash back or 5X Ultimate Rewards in popular categories which include office supply stores. If you maximize the spending every year, you will earn 125,000 points.
