Capital One Quicksilver Card Changes

Capital One Quicksilver cardholders have received emails this morning with upcoming changes to their card.

The email says that soon the Capital One Quicksilver card will move from Mastercard to Capital One’s Discover network.

In addition, the card will get new rewards. Cardholders will earn unlimited 3% cash back at grocery stores (excludes super stores like Walmart/Target) and gas stations (public EV charging stations are also included).

The card will continue to earn 1.5% cash back on all other purchases, with no annual fee. You will also keep your current rewards balance and other card benefits. APR, credit limit and due dates will not change either.

Your current card will stop working on July 9, 2026. You will need to activate and start using the new card once you receive it, in order to earn 3% cash back on groceries and gas.

Other Capital One cards like Venture and Savor will likely move over to the Discover network soon as well.

One potential drawback to consider is that while Discover’s global footprint has grown in recent years, it still faces significantly lower merchant acceptance rates compared to Visa or Mastercard, particularly at smaller shops. If you frequently travel internationally, you may find that Discover is not as universally welcomed as your previous Mastercard, making it essential to carry a backup card to avoid being caught off guard at checkout.
