American Express has a targeted transfer bonus promotion going on where you can get 20% to 50% more Hilton Honors points when you transfer Membership Rewards points. The regular transfer rate is 1000 Membership Rewards points = 2000, but with this promotion you get 1000 Membership Rewards points = 2,400 (with 30% bonus) or 3,000 (with 50% bonus) Hilton Honors Points. There’s no expiration date.
Offer Terms
- Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
- The additional Hilton Honors Bonus Points will be awarded at the time of transfer.
- Hilton Honors Bonus Points do not count towards elite tier qualification.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
With a 50% transfer bonus, this could make sense for some people. Hilton points are some of the least valuable out there, usually valued at 0.4 cents per point, so this will give you a value of just over 1.2 cent for your Membership Rewards. Not bad, but not the best use of your Amex points. You could use this promotion if you need some more Hilton points towards a redemption, or to keep your Hilton points from expiring.
However, if the Amazon redemption option for Hilton points becomes reality, it could be a way of cashing out Membership Rewards for 1.5 cents each. We don’t know whether that would happen or not though, so not worth it for now.
Anyone targeted for the 50% bonus? Let me know.
