American Express is changing the way a Reward Year is calculated for your Blue Cash cards. For now, a Reward Year is 12 billing periods in a row beginning with the one that starts in the calendar month in which your Card account anniversary occurs.

But starting June 30th, that will change. Here’s the new rules for Blue Cash Everyday/Preferred and the Old Blue Cash card.
- Blue Cash Everyday/Preferred
- Starting on June 30, 2017, an annual reward year will be a calendar year.
- Old Blue Cash
- As of June 30, 2017, a Reward Year will begin the day after your Blue Cash account anniversary date.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
The start of the new Reward Year is important for those why try to maximize cashback on these cards. This simplifies the starting date. If you have an Old Blue Cash card, you can call or chat to find out your account anniversary date.
