American Airlines to Add Starlink Wi-Fi

American Airlines announced that it plans to install Starlink satellite Wi-Fi on more than 500 regional and narrowbody aircraft beginning in early 2027. The rollout will include much of the airline’s Airbus narrowbody fleet, including upcoming A321neo and A321XLR deliveries.

Starlink is expected to deliver much faster and more reliable inflight internet compared to older onboard Wi-Fi systems, with support for streaming, gaming, video calls, and other high-bandwidth uses during flights.

American joins several other airlines that are adopting Starlink technology, including United, Southwest, Alaska Airlines, Air France, and Qatar Airways. Airlines have increasingly shifted toward low-earth orbit satellite internet providers because they generally offer lower latency and improved speeds over traditional inflight connectivity systems.
