American Airline Cuts More Perks on Basic Economy Fares

American Airlines increased fees for checked bags today, adding another $10 to the price. Those flying Basic Economy get a $5 extra charge on top of that increase.

But that not the only bad news for those purchasing Basic Economy tickets, which are the cheapest fares. For Basic Economy tickets purchased May 18 and beyond, all customers, including those with status, will have to pay for seat selection and will not be eligible for complimentary and systemwide upgrades.

Starting later this year, AAdvantage® members who do not have status or select co-branded credit cards will board in Group 7 while AAdvantage® status members and credit card holders will continue to receive Priority or Preferred boarding when purchasing a Basic Economy fare.
