FAA Wont’ Get Involved with Enforcing Masks on Planes

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Wednesday that it will not make it mandatory for passengers to wear face masks on planes. This leaves the the decision to require protective gear to individual airlines.

The Hill reports that FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson told the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will take the lead in mandating safety regulations. The FAA will focus on “aviation safety.”

Most airlines already require masks to be worn on flights, and some have said they will be checking passengers’ temperatures prior to boarding. American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines has said they will ban any passenger who refuses to wear a mask on board.

There have already been a couple of cases in recent days where passengers have refused to wear masks aboard.
