New York is the hardest hit state by the coronavirus outbreak. New York reported almost 7,000 new cases of the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to nearly 66,500, and causing 1,200 deaths. Most of the cases are in New York City, where 36,221 people have tested positive, the city says.

Now an emergency field hospital in Central Park. Sunday morning, trucks filled with equipment and supplies parked along 5th Avenue. The Samaritan’s Purse organization brought in four trailers of gear, that included tents, beds, personal protective equipment and 10 ventilators. A team of 70 health care workers will be on site, coming from around the US to help during the pandemic. It is located across the street from Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital and it expected to open and be operational on Tuesday.

“This is honestly the most improbable place we’ve ever been. I never would have guessed we’d come to New York City with something like this. But New York never thought it would be dealing with a pandemic, either,” Dr. Elliott Tenpenny told the NY Post.

As New York remains the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis in the United States, these supplemental medical facilities could pop up in more places around the city.

  1. Stay strong New York!!
I lived in Brooklyn for several years, before moving out West to L.A.
My heart aches for what NY is going through right now.
