New Ridesharing App Myle Promises Cheaper Rides and No Hidden Fees in NYC

New Ridesharing App Myle in NYC

Uber and Lyft are by far the most recognizable names when it comes to ride-hailing services. But there are also other options out there and NYC now has a new service that claims to be even cheaper. Myle launched this week exclusively in New York, the startup said in a Wednesday announcement. You can check out the app here and use promo code DannyGUSFPFU to get your first ride for free.

Myle is supposed to be the best ride-hailing service for New Yorkers, with operations in all five boroughs, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. The company says it also plans to expand to several Long Island counties later this year. The firm’s founder and CEO, Aleksey Medvedovskiy, spent 20 years as part of the taxi industry and touts this new company as the better solution for locals.

Myle has approximately 5,000 drivers (Uber has over 80,000) licensed by the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC). But when I checked for a ride right now, it showed a 3 minute wait, which is not bad at all. Most rides should cost, on average, 10 percent less than if you travel to the same destination with Uber or Lyft. It also says it won’t make use of surge pricing or any hidden fees. There’s no cancellation fee for example until the driver is parked in front of the pick-up location.

I did a quick comparison for a ride from my house to my job and Myle gave me a price of $19.88 with 4 seats available and $17.83 for a shared ride with 2 seats available. UberX was priced at 23.64 and UberPool was $14.54.

The app itself looks similar to Uber. You can pick between a variety of different cars, including wheelchair accessible ones, and schedule rides ahead of time.

But there is already a lot of competition in NYC already. Juno, an app that positioned itself as a driver-friendly alternative to Uber and Lyft, shut down recently. But there is still Uber, Lyft and Via (download  it here and use my referral code danny7r4dadada to get a $20 signup bonus). Then there are the yellow and green cabs.
