Samsung Galaxy S4 Settlement, Get $10 If You Owned One

Samsung has just settled a lawsuit over false benchmarks on the now six-year-old device Galasy S4. The lawsuit was settled for $13.4 million. This Galaxy S4 Settlement come years after the class action was first filed.

The lawsuit started in November 2014 by Daniel Norcia. It alleged that Samsung was artificially inflating benchmark scores by introducing code that detected when benchmarks were running. It then overclocked the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor speed to 532MHz, instead of the actual 480MHz.

Samsung never denied that it inflated benchmark scores. But, the company argued that under California law, it was not “legally obliged” to disclose that the phone was set up to inflate scores. Instead, the company argued that only security issues and data breaches need to be disclosed to the public.

The reason it took so long is because the case made its way all the way up to the Supreme Court. It was set to go to trial before Samsung finally settled for $13.4 million. There’s no details yet how to file a claim if you don’t receive an email directly. Those who are still using the same email, should get a notice soon. Others should keep an eye out for more info.

How Much Do I Get?

Out of that total $13.4 million, Daniel Norcia will receive $7,500, a settlement fund gets $2.8 million, and the remaining $10.6 million will be injunctive relief. The lawyers fighting the case receive $1.5 million for their years of work. Everyone in the US who owned an S4 with get $10 in compensation.
