Best City to Visit in the US?

I often write about travel deals here. Traveling abroad, away to some Instagram perfect beach, is usually the goal. But here in the United States there’s also lots of great destinations. Each year Travel + Leisure asks its readers to share their travel experiences and vote on the top islands, cities, airlines, cruise ships, and more. Readers rate cities for their sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and overall value for visitors.

Top 15 US Cities to Visit

And one city has been topping the list of best places to visit in the US year and year. Charleston is the winner once again in this years list. The South Carolina port city has topped the Travel + Leisure readers’ list of the best U.S. cities since 2013, even taking the top spot in the world in 2017.

What makes this city #1 is the charming downtown historic district is undeniably easy on the eyes. Palmetto-fringed streets, grand antebellum facades and piazza-lined “single houses,” and the most magical of golden hours, as per Travel + Leisure. The city is walkable and has a bikeable downtown. There’s easily accessible beaches nearby and then there’s the restaurant scene and the rich history.

  1. I love Charleston, probably my favorite city. But i’m still surprised. Didn’t think it was highly rated by many people.

  2. I like Chicago the best. Incredible city to visit. So much to do. On the other hand, I’m not surprised Boston is not in this list. Lots to do but I think the friendliness factor is on the low side, based on my last few visits.
