New Happy Gift Card Terms Don’t Allow Gift Card Purchases

Happy gift cards are often on sale at many websites and stores. They’re a useful tool for manufactured spending as you can use them to purchase other gift cards as some stores like Home Depot or Bed Bath & Beyond. But a recent change on the terms might make that more difficult.

New Happy Gift Card Terms

If you look in the back of your Happy gift cards, or on their website, these are the current terms:

This Happy Card is good at any of the stores featured on the card in the U.S. Online redemption may not be available for all merchants. For questions, balance inquiry or customer service visit happycards.com. or call 855-606-3494. By using this card, you agree to the Cardholder Agreement at happycards.com. Treat this card like cash; no replacement if lost/stolen. Card not usable to buy gift cards or pay prior debts. Not reloadable; no cash redemption except as required by law. Funds do not expire; if Valid Thru date has passed, call for new card. Happy Gift Card issued by MetaBank®, Member FDIC; distributed and serviced by Blackhawk Network California, Inc. Covered by Blackhawk Network Patent, blackhawknetwork.com/patent.
I’m not sure exactly when this change has happened, but older versions of these cards did not have that language in there. Using Happy Gift Cards should still function the same way though. You are still able to purchase other gift cards with them at stores that let you do so. But now cashiers do have the right to refuse them for gift card purchases, if they see the fine print.
