There’s a new Staples Visa Gift Card promotion. This one gets you a $5 discount on Visa gift cards which doesn’t quite wipe out the activation fee of 6.95, but it gets close. This is a good opportunity for cheap credit card rewards, especially when combined with one of the Chase Ink cards [5X Ultimate Rewards] or Amex SimplyCash Plus [5% Cashback].
- Valid 4/7/19–4/13/19
- In store only.
- Limit 1 per customer. All trademarks are property of their respective owners.
- The Visa Gift Card is issued by MetaBank
How to Maximize Profits
This is a good deal on Visa Gift Cards. They have sold them at a discount in the past, but through rebates and limited to 1 per household. With this promotion the fee is cut down to $1.95 instantly and you can purchase as many as you’d like. But, you’re limited to $2,000 in gift card purchases every day.
So for every $200 Visa gift card you buy, you can earn 1,010 Chase UR points if you’re using your Chase Ink Plus/Cash card, while paying $1.95. You could also try a Amex SimplyCash for 5% back, but there were reports that it wasn’t earning that rate at Office Depot on gift card purchases. Let me know if you test it out.
Also make sure you use these offers first, if you have yet to maximize them:
How To Liquidate Gift Cards
Visa gift cards can be liquidated by buying money orders at Walmart or at various grocery stores and other locations. The PIN is already set as the last 4 digits of the card number. The can also be used for bill pay at Walmart and Kmart. If everything else fails, you can always use them everywhere Visa is accepted and you’re still earning 5X on every purchase.
Not as good as the promotion that waived the fee completely, but still a good one. Seems to be more scalable as there’s no household limit. I would suggest going to your nearest location early because stock runs out quickly.
