The Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) program from American Express gives you perks that you would see from Elite status at some hotel chains. You get room upgrades, daily breakfast for two, late 4PM checkout, $100+ property credit, free 3rd/4th night at some properties and more. The program is available for Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum cardholders. Both cards also have bonus earning for hotels booked through FHR. You will earn 5X Membership Rewards points for every dollar spent.
But now there’s also another option. You can use your Membership Rewards points to book stays through FHR. The option is not yet available at all properties. But the value for your points is only 1 cent, when using them this way. The email mentions that 50,000 Membership Rewards points for example are equal to $500 towards your next FHR stay. A quick check on the Amex FHR website shows an exact 1 cent point value for all bookings. You need to be logged in as a primary Platinum card account holder in order to see the Pay with points option.
Paying with points for Amex FHR bookings only gets you a value of 1 cent per point, so it’s not the best use of your Membership Rewards. Plus you’re missing out on the 5X earning with your Amex Platinum cards. Probably not worth it for most people, but if you have more points that you would ever need, then this is another redemption option.
