American Airlines and China Southern Announce Frequent Flyer Partnership

American Airlines and Asia’s largest carrier China Southern announced this week a new frequent flyer partnership. The new arrangement will allow American’s AAdvantage and China Southern’s Sky Pearl Club members the ability to earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights.

Mileage earning for passengers already went into effect March 21, and online availability is planned to be introduced later this year. But Skift reports that phone reservations agents at American already have the ability to book China Southern flights through Sabre, its booking system. There’s already a chart on the AA website for earning and redeeming AAdvantage miles with China Southern.

You can redeem AAdvantage® miles to book award travel in Business and Economy (award travel in First will be available later) on China Southern Airlines with oneworld® and partner airline awards which allow you to travel to and from your desired destination using a combination of our airline participants.

In addition to the ability to earn and spend miles reciprocally, loyalty members can book flights directly through the other carrier’s website and still reap benefits. American Airlines bought paid $200 million for a stake in China Southern Airlines back in 2017. That represents 2.76 percent of its shares.
