American Express has several versions of its Platinum credit card which offers lots of perks and benefits. There’s the personal and business versions that everyone is familiar with and then there’s some other flavors that are not as widely popular. One of those flavors is the Ameriprise Amex Platinum which offered something unique. It didn’t offer a signup bonus (expect for some rare offers), but for a long time it was waiving the fee for the first year. This meant that you were able to get an Amex Platinum card along with all its credits and perks for one year without having to pay anything. And, since the benefits of the card are not considered a bonus, you were able to apply again even if you’ve had the card in the past.
But now the no fee offer is dead. Instead, the card has the standard Amex Platinum welcome bonus of 60,000 Membership Rewards points.
- Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after spending $5,000 in purchases on your Card in your first three months of Card Membership.
- A Special Offer for Ameriprise Clients – Earn an additional 5,000 Membership Rewards® points for every $20,000 in eligible purchases on the Card, up to 30,000 additional points per year.
- Annual fee of $550 not waived.
Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.
While this is bad news for those who were using the card for the benefits, it might be good for other. If you’ve never had the Ameriprise Amex Platinum, then it gives you the opportunity for yet another Membership Rewards bonus.
