Amex Gold Card, 20% Restaurant Credit and Rose Gold Design Go Away on 1/9/19

The American Express Gold card was revamped back in October. The fee went up to $250 from $195, and is not waived the first year. The signup bonus is 50,000 Membership Rewards points and you also get 20% at restaurants for the first three months. You can read more about the card here.

Amex Gold Card

While it is called the Amex Gold Card, it also has a Rose Gold version. That is a limited edition version of the card that will only be available through January 9, 2019. The rose gold metal design was so popular that Amex encountered shipping delays when it was first released. Apparently over 60% of new Card Members selected the Rose Gold metal card so far.

Also going away after January 9th is the 20% discount at restaurants. Currently you can get 20% back as a statement credit at U.S. Restaurants with the Gold Card within the first 3 months of your Card Membership, up to $100 back. A nice added bonus for most people.

Applying for the Card

Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

This is considered the same product as the old card. So if you have had the Amex Premier Rewards Gold card in the past you will not be eligible to get the signup bonus on the new Amex Gold Card. If you’re not sure if you’ve had that card in the past, here’s how to check.
