Instant $15 Discount on $300+ Visa Gift Cards at Office Depot (12/16-12/22/18)

Office Depot and OfficeMax have a new Visa gift card deal. You can save $15 instantly when you buy $300 or more. This offer comes with a instant discount and it takes care of the fees on these cards. It gets better since you can earn 5X at office supply stores with a couple of cards. The offer is not in this week’s ad, but it’s being advertised in stores.

Offer Terms

  • Limit one (1) offer per customer.
  • Discount applied at register.
  • Offer Valid 12/16/18 through 12/22/18
  • Offer valid in store on Visa® Gift Cards only.
  • Visa Gift Card is issued by Metabank.

Maximizing The Offer

Office Depot and OfficeMax sell $200 Visa gift cards that have an activation fee of $6.95. To get the $15 instant discount, you need to spend at least $300. To maximize credit card rewards, it’s best to purchase two $200 Visa gift cards, which will cost you $413.90. Take off $50 at the register and you’re paying just $398.90. You make a small profit of $1.10, but let’s also look at the points that you can earn.

If you have a Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash card, you would earn 1,995 Ultimate Rewards points. You can also use a Amex SimplyCash Plus Business Card which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores as well. That would give you $19.95 in cashback. However Chase Ink Plus/Cash would be my choices as UR points are more valuable than cash and Amex has been cracking down on gift card purchases.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is a good opportunity to get free Ultimate Rewards points, or just cashback. Definitely worth a trip if you have a location nearby.

  1. very “interesting.” Thanks for the catch. Some somebody anticipate that OD would be out with an unadvertised vgc this week — to keep up with Staples’ current $5 off per card deal. If this indeed is $15 off $300 (2×200), then this indeed beats that deal. 🙂
