Lyft has acquired Motivate, the largest bike-share operators in North America. Motivate operates New York City’s Citi Bike, Bay Area’s Ford GoBike, Chicago’s Divvy, Washington, DC’s Capital Bikeshare and five other US systems. In addition to the acquisition, Lyft will also funnel $100 million into a dramatic expansion of Citi Bike in New York City. Citi Bike is already biggest bike-share system in the country. Citi Bike is expected to double its geographic area and triple its number of bikes to 40,000 within five years.
Lyft also revealed a mock-up of its newly branded bikes and scooters that it intends to launch in additional markets in the near future.
