A new app called Miwhip is rivaling Uber in London. But they are getting fancier than UberBLACK or UberSUV. Miwhip customers could end up travelling in a gold supercars.
The supercar surprise applies only once every 100 rides. That means that for every 99 people who call a cab, the 100th person will have a McLaren, Lamborghini or something similarly exotic turn up. If you’re a loyal customer, your 100th trip will also be in a supercar. There will be some restrictions to the supercar offer which is available for trips beginning or ending within London or the airports.
Miwhip has spent £1.5 million ($1.9M) buying up five gold wrapped supercars since winning its operating licence from Transport for London last month and plans to purchase dozens, and perhaps hundreds, more as demand grows.
Miwhip has signed up 4,000 drivers already and hopes to have 10,000 by the end of next year. It plans to attract drivers by only collecting a 15 per cent commission from drivers – compared with Uber’s 25 per cent – and paying them daily.
There’s no word yet if they plan to expand. Hopefully we’ll get to ride around in gold supercars here in the US as well.
